Fresh Start part 5

12/16/2016 15:32

Sometimes you think you've gone too far. You get caught up in something and then you look around and you don't even know where you are anymore. I think that's a pretty common thing in this life. But here's the truth of the matter: God allows U-turns. In fact, He encourages them. He did the biggest U-turn you could think of on the cross. From death to life. And He did both FOR us, and AS us. So no matter what has happened... there is NO point of no return. There is no, "I'm doomed, so I might as well give up." In fact, the only way to truly fail is to fail to try. Proverbs 24:16 says it like this, "For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again..." It's not how hard you can hit... it's how hard you can GET hit and keep moving forward. And when we understand the finished work of the cross, we understand that Jesus is the One holding us up. And if Jesus--if LOVE--is holding you up... then what could possibly knock you down? Spoiler alert: The answer is nothing. And that's why, especially when I REALLY want something, if I get a "no" for an answer I don't look at it as a rejection. I look at it as a redirection. Because my heavenly Father knows what I NEED. And what I NEED and what I WANT are sometimes very far apart. So it's important to understand that this new life... is HIS life. Jesus living His own abundant, everlasting, eternal, Resurrection Life in us, and through us, and as us. It's GOD working in us to will and to do of HIS good pleasure. It's God--again, love--manifesting Himself to us and through us. It's a fresh start... not a do over. It's not "You get one more try, good luck." It's partaking of the Divine Nature and resting as Jesus (the Word) lives (becomes flesh) in us. And that's when we can EXPERIENCE His life. By experiencing His love. That's when things change. Completely. That's when we can walk in newness of life. Because we KNOW all things are under our feet, and even when we don't SEE all things under our feet we DO see Jesus. We DO see love. Wherever we are. No matter what the circumstance or situation is. So in some ways it may not seem like our fresh start comes with a lot of changes. We are still going to go through stuff. But at the same time, we will be able to see that EVERYTHING has changed. Because we'll be going through stuff... but stuff won't be going through us. We won't be trying to overcome. We'll understand that in Him we have ALREADY overcome. Because HE overcame the world. That's why we can be of good cheer. We won't have to try to conquer. Because in Him we are MORE than conquerors. Because HE already conquered. He didn't just give us a new lease on life. He gave us HIS life. On the cross Jesus gave His life FOR us, and He gave His life TO us. So that we could experience it and enjoy it as HE lives it. So when we think we've messed things up beyond the point of no return... all we have to do is turn around. Because He promised He would never leave us nor forsake us. He lives IN us. Wherever you go, there He is. So you can stop going the way you've been going and you can let Him take you where HE wants you to go!

Fresh Start part 4

12/15/2016 14:32

I think one of the most important things about what happened at the cross is that Jesus not only gave His life FOR us, but He gave His life TO us. So when we're talking about a fresh start, we're not talking about someone just hitting the reset button so we can have a do-over. And that's a good thing. Because while we can (and should) learn from our mistakes... getting to try again on our own would still not be a very good scenario. Because, well, let me say it like this: "ANd Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27). Or Luke 18:27, "And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." See the key there? WITH God. And notice it doesn't say "FOR God." Remember, it is God working IN us both to will and to do of His good pleasure. That desire in your heart comes from Him. And the power to fulfill that desire comes from Him. It's all about Jesus because it's all about love. We don't have to try to live Jesus' life--and thank God for that, because nobody can live Jesus' life except Jesus--because He is living it in us, and through us, and as us. Again, He didn't just give it FOR us, He gave it TO us. So that we could partake of the Divine Nature. And EXPERIENCE His life by experiencing the love of the Father to His Son. And that's the difference between just getting a "do-over" and getting the gift of God, which is eternal life. Abundant life. Everlasting life. Resurrection Life. Jesus' life. A life filled with love. God loves us... and we love Him back by loving each other. That's what a fresh start is really all about. Not trying to get something we think we don't have, but knowing (and believing) that we have what we need... in abundance... and sharing what we've got! Not walking by sight--or sleepwalking--but walking by faith. Living by believing. I think people are desperate for something real these days. I think we've had it with the hampster wheel of religion, where we look really busy but never get anywhere, and we want something different. Something fresh. Something new. Not tripping and stumbling over the sin that so easily besets us, but laying it aside and walking in newness of life. Seeing everything under our feet and realizing that we HAVE overcome. Because JESUS OVERCAME. We don't need to conquer, because we are more than conquerors in Him. He already conquered. He finished the work, and we get to enjoy the fruit of His labor. The fruit of the Spirit, which is love. We get that fresh start where we don't have to drag the corpse of the old man--the body of sin--around anymore. We're free. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. And the Spirit lives in you. So wherever you go... there you are. And wherever you are... there He is. Wherever you are... you're free. Free FROM the old way of "life." Free FROM the bondage of sin and death. And free TO experience Jesus' life. Free TO live and love. Free to BE loved. To experience love. And to share love. I know I say this all the time, but THE difference between life and death is love. To live is to love and to love is to live. They aren't just linked, they are the same thing. So when we talk about this fresh start... it's not a "do-over." It's Jesus. It's love!

Fresh Start part 3

12/14/2016 15:27

I can't think of anything more liberating that forgiveness. True forgiveness. Not, "I'll forgive, but I'll never forget." Not, "Just as if I'd never sinned." But a total and complete fresh start. As Hebrews 10:2 puts it, "Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins?" The cross--where we were forgiven, and cleansed--gave us that fresh start. It even got rid of our sin CONSCIOUSNESS. And that's the important part. (Even though it seems like all the church world is conscious of is sin. True relationship is a righteousness hunt, not a sin hunt.) When we were given that fresh start, we could leave the rest behind. Leave our PAST behind. Learn from it, sure, so we don't keep making the same mistakes over and over, but don't let it define us. Don't let it rob us of hope for a happy ending. Look at Philippians 1:6, "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." And this takes me back to the idea of, "We might not see the whole blueprint, but we trust our heavenly Father and His plan." I think a lot of times we give up right when we're on the verge of something great. Because we think, "If it hasn't happened yet it's not going to." But that's why I always say, "If you want something different, do something different. Unless you're building something. In which case, stay the course." They say Rome wasn't built in a day, right? So why--in this microwave economy of instant gratification--do we think everything should be right here and right now? God started something in you. And HE will finish it. (In a sense He finished it 2,000 years ago on the cross because we ARE complete in Him, but in another sense He is continually finishing it as He reveals Himself to you, and in you, and through you, and as you.) Remember, it's the power of God working in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. The desire comes from Him. And the power to manifest that desire comes from Him. It's all Him. Which means it's all love. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." And here's the coolest part: When we delight ourselves in Him we find that HE is the desire of our heart. LOVE is the desire of our heart. And we can only get it from the source. Commit your ways to Him and you'll see them come to fruition. Delight yourself in Him and you'll experience the desire (again, love) of your heart. But that's a hard thing to do if you're constantly trying to pay for past mistakes. Or if you think you're doomed so you've given up. If you define yourself by anything other than Jesus. You know... God in the flesh. Love in a body. God in YOUR flesh. Love in YOUR body. That's what forgiveness equips and empowers us to do. It takes away any sense of separation between us and our loving heavenly Father. So that we can receive and release His love. Experience His love. And in that way, experience that fresh start. Walking in newness of life. Walking in LOVE!

Fresh Start part 2

12/13/2016 15:48

"I already know I'm going to hell, so who cares?" The statement--because that's what it was, a matter-of-fact statement--shocked me. And not just because I totally and completely disagree with every single bit of it. But because someone I love had totally and completely given up. They had let their past mistakes bury them and were absolutely DEAD in their trespasses and sins. And not only the walking dead... but DOOMED. They didn't even have anything to look forward to except an eternal fiery punishment for the deeds they were already suffering the effects of. It broke my heart. Because some people might call that "sound doctrine" but to me it's complete and utter nonsense. Before we go forward let me quote my favorite verse about "hell" really quick. Just to get it out of the way. Revelation 20:14, "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." So first things first: Hell can't BE a lake of fire if it was thrown INTO the lake of fire. Also, GOD is the consuming fire... And secondly: Adam died the first death when he ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And then Jesus died the second death on the cross. Once you've had a second death you can have a new birth. A new LIFE. HIS life. Abundant, everlasting, eternal, Resurrection Life! Not by going through the same motions we were going through before. Not by letting our past drag us down. But by letting go of some things. It's hard to see everything under your feet--and in that way walk by faith--when you're letting all that stuff drag you down and bury you. When you're focusing on the problem instead of the solution. When you're telling your God how big the storm is instead of telling the storm how big your God is. When you're not only dragging the past around, but living in it. Abiding in death. Letting it define you. Mistakes are not supposed to define us. Jesus is supposed to define us. The problem (the MAIN problem, I should say) with religion is that it can only tell you what's WRONG with you. It takes the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth that testifies of your true identity by testifying of Jesus, to tell you what's RIGHT with you. We don't need to be someone we're not. We simply need to find out who we really are. And that's what I was trying to say yesterday. There's a YOU that is buried deep down inside. And for a lot of reasons we don't let it out. But we should. We shouldn't be afraid of that thing that makes our heart sing. Because guess how that thing got there; "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13). And this is actually where I think I'm going to spend my time tomorrow. But for today... GOD put that thing in your heart. It's HIM working IN you both to WILL and to DO of His good pleasure. The desire comes from Him, and the power to achieve that desire comes from Him. Remember yesterday about committing our ways to the Lord? About being our true selves by doing what we do best--that thing that makes us... us!--and doing it with love. Because that's who we really are. And that's what it all comes down to. Walking in newness of life is walking in love. Making a U-turn is turning from death to life. That's what Jesus did both for us and as us!

Fresh Start part 1

12/12/2016 17:54

My Bible case says, "God allows U-turns." And I always add, "In fact, He encourages them." So that's what I want to look at for the next few days. Because sometimes it seems like we're stuck. Stuck in a rut--once again, a grave with the ends kicked out--or stuck on a certain path. But I'm telling you... we're not. In face, we've been rather violently UNSTUCK. Brought OUT of the bondage of sin and death and INTO the Promised Land (that flows with milk and honey, righteousness and revelation) of rest. What I'm saying is: Where you're at right now isn't where you're going to be forever. Over and over in the Old Testament of the Bible we see the phrase, "It came to pass." And the understanding here is that it came to pass, not to stay. But we get so lost in our circumstances sometimes that we can't see the bigger picture. We can't see God's grand scheme. And that's why we absolutely NEED verses like Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT), "For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." And verses like Proverbs 16:3 (NLT), "Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed." Because while these verses don't necessarily SHOW us the plan--the blueprint, if you will--they DO give us a reason to TRUST the plan. Here's another one: Ephesians 3:20 (NLT), "Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think." See what I'm saying? He knows better than we do what's good for us. And when we commit our actions to Him those plans become our reality. I always use myself as an example of this. I'm a writer. But it wasn't until I started writing Jesus books that I actually accomplished anything. It was already in my heart to do it... and I absolutely believe that is the number one (if not the ONLY) reason we should do something... but it wasn't until I committed it to the Lord that it manifested into something real. And, listen, I'm not a New York Times bestselling author or anything... but I know at least two people who have said my books changed their lives. And I LOVE those two people. So to me, that's a pretty big deal. You can't always change the whole world, but sometimes you can change SOMEONE'S whole world. And here's my point, to bring it all back around to the title of this Rant series, you never have to give up on your dreams. It's never too late to be who you are. Who you REALLY are. That thing inside you that makes your heart leap in your chest. That thing inside you that you've been putting off, or pushing down, because you think you need to be someone else. Do that thing! Be that person. If it's in your heart... let it out! Because the world needs it. We were put here to be loved and to love each other. We were each given unique gifts. Not to stifle, but to share. Not to hide under a basket, but to put on the table and light up the whole room! You have been given a fresh start. You don't have to stay stuck. You don't have to settle. There's something inside you bursting at the seams to come out. Let it out. Let it shine. Let LOVE out. That thing that you love. That love that you are!

Faith Walking part 5

12/11/2016 15:16

Faith walking is the opposite of sleepwalking. When--before the cross--we were asleep at the wheel, we were dead in our trespasses and sins. We were trapped in the lie of unbelief. The lie that says we have to do in order to be. The lie that says we have to earn our bread by the sweat of our brow. The lie that says we have to earn God's love and acceptance. Faith walking, on the other hand, is walking in newness of life. Living by believing. Knowing the truth and letting the truth that you know set you free and make you free. Free FROM sin and death. Free TO live and love. I'm telling you right now, if we really based our lives--everything we do and everything we are--on the truth that our heavenly Father loves us... I think everything would feel different. The truth that is already true (always has been and always will be) would become true for us. And then, like Jesus, we would live in perfect harmony with the Father. John 6:57 says it like this, "As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me." And notice that we are not living FOR the Father. We are not trying to earn anything FROM the Father. We eat and drink the love feast that IS God, and it sustains us. It fills us up to overflowing with what we've been filled with. And we live BY the Father. He gave us everything we would or could ever need when He gave us His only begotten Son. When He gave us His Holy Spirit. When He gave us... Himself. Remember, Jesus didn't just give His life FOR us. He gave His life TO us. So that we could partake of the Divine Nature. So that we could experience His abundant, everlasting, eternal, Resurrection Life. Not by trying to live it, because nobody can live Jesus' life except Jesus, but by letting HIM live His own life in, and through, and as us! We don't try to follow in Jesus' foot prints. That's not what faith walking is all about. Instead we let Jesus make His own foot prints with our feet. We let Him take us where He wants us to go. Remember the picture of the wind? No one knows where it comes from or where it's going. But if you let it carry you then you'll get where YOU need to go. Song of Solomon 4:16 uses this same picture of wind, "Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits." We have everything we need. But it's not until the wind blows that what's inside comes out. And that's when our beloved comes into the garden and eats His fill. That's when we love God by loving each other. That's when appearance, or what's on the surface, or what the world tries to show us, ceases to matter and we get to the HEART of the matter. Which is God's heart beating with love in our chests. Walk by faith. Live by believing. To live is to love and to love is live. We live by loving. Because we know and believe that we are loved. Have faith in God. Have faith in love. Walk by faith. Live by God. Love with the love you are loved with. Let what's inside come out. Not by trying to force it out, but simply by believing it's in there and knowing it's too good, and too big, to STAY in there. It comes out. Naturally. Because that's our new nature. The love nature!

Faith Walking part 4

12/10/2016 16:58

Sleepwalking is abiding in death. Before the cross we were dead in our trespasses and sins. It's not believing that we are loved, and looking for love in all the wrong places. The opposite of that is faith walking. Walking by faith and not by (natural) sight. Seeing the things that are unseen. The EVIDENCE of things unseen. Seeing the effects of love. Because that's what "walking by faith" really means; living by believing. Knowing and believing the love of Christ. Receiving and releasing it. That's what life is all about. That's HOW we live. To live is to love and to love is to live. So instead of trying to be someone we're not--and instead of trying to make others be someone they're not--we simply live a life of love. We embrace who we are, and who others are. We let people be themselves even as we learn to be ourselves. Not trying to live Jesus' life--nobody can do that except Jesus--but letting Him live His own abundant, everlasting, eternal, Resurrection Life in us, and through us, and as us. Have faith in God, right? Trust your heavenly Father to take care of you. And when you don't have to worry about taking care of yourself, that's when you can focus on taking care of others. When you know what you have you can begin to live out of abundance. You can share what you've got... because you KNOW what you've got. Instead of trying to get something, you can GIVE something. Which is what truly living is all about. To live is to love. To love is to live. And to love is to GIVE. Love IS giving. It's never about getting. We'll already been given everything we need; blessed with all Spiritual blessings and given all things that pertain to life and godliness. We have what we need. And we have it in abundance. But, in a practical sense, it's not just "the truth" that sets you free. It's the truth you KNOW, and the truth you BELIEVE. And don't get me wrong here--we ARE free. That's the truth. But if you don't know you're free you aren't going to act like you're free. You're going to walk (live) by sight. You're going to accept what the world throws at you, because you don't know (or believe) that there's a better option. But I'm here to tell you there's a more excellent way. And His name is Jesus. His name is love. Love is the truth. Love is the way. Love is the life. Walking by faith is walking in love. Living by believing is living by love. Love is what equips and empowers us to live. Because, again, life and love are the same thing! Love is the difference between death and life. Love is what makes life WORTH living, and love is what makes living POSSIBLE. Because here's the thing: You can't give what you don't have. And you can only give what you do have. Hurting people hurt people. But loved people love people. God is not interested in relgion. He's not interested in human effort. He doesn't love us because of what we do. He loves us because of who we are. And who HE is. And since what we do flows from what we believe--how we walk flows from our faith--when we know that we are loved... everything flows from that. When we know we are filled with love we can fill ourselves to overflowing with that love and watch it come out naturally. Not a beast nature, but a love nature. Not the walking dead. Not sleepwalking. But walking by faith. Walking in love!

Faith Walking part 3

12/09/2016 15:23

Seeing is believing, right? What you see in the mirror is what you be. What's inside is what comes out. So why does our key verse, 2 Corinthians 5:7, "For we walk by faith, not by sight," seem to make that distinction? Well, the short answer is found one chapter earlier. 2 Corinthians 4:18, "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." We look at the things which are not seen, not the things that are seen. We look with Spiritual eyes, not natural eyes. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, right? Because that's where grace is. It's in His eyes. When God looks at us He sees Jesus, and when He looks at Jesus He sees us. And THAT'S how we're supposed to see each other. We're not supposed to judge by appearance. We're supposed to judge righteous judgment. We're supposed to, as Ezekiel 45:9 says, "...remove violence and spoil, and execute judgment and justice..." The judgment was rendered at the cross. Not a death sentence, but an everlasting LIFE sentence. Jesus' sacrifice was giving His life. God's judgment was raising Him from the dead. THAT'S the judgment we are supposed to execute. And if you don't think telling someone who they really are--and loving them without expectation--can't raise them from the dead then you don't understand the true nature of love. Look at 1 John 3:14, "We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death." What's the difference between death and life? LOVE! What makes an abundant life abundant? LOVE! How do we walk by faith--or live by believing? We receive and release the love of Christ! That's the New Commandment, for the New Man, by the way. Love one another as God loves you. When we talked about sleepwalking we talked about being dead in our trespasses and sins. Unbelief. Not believing that we are loved, or even worthy of love. So the opposite of that--faith walking--is about being alive and walking in newness of life! Knowing and believing that we ARE loved, and loving God by loving each other with that same love. So. Seeing is believing. But in order to see the right thing you need to look at the things that are not seen. For example, "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit" (John 3:8). We don't see the wind. But we see the effects of it. We see the evidence of it. Which is what faith is; the evidence of things not seen. Love is real, and when love is put into action it's charity. But it's not always something you see. Until you look in the right place, with the right eyes. The dove's eyes. The eyes of the Spirit. The eyes of grace. Then you see what's REALLY there, deep down inside, instead of the surface stuff that the world piles on us in order to try to bury us. Guys, I've said it before and I'll say it again: If Jesus is holding you up (and He is) then nothing can drag you down! You can walk and not stumble. You can walk by faith and not by (natural) sight!

Faith Walking part 2

12/08/2016 14:23

Walking by faith is living by believing. It's like this, "Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him" (Hebrews 2:8). All things ARE under our feet. Because His feet ARE our feet. But we don't see things that way. Many times we are so focused on what's "in front of us" that we don't realize it's really under us! We let things distract us. We walk by sight, not by faith. We judge by appearance, instead of judging righteous judgment. That's the problem. And here's the solution. The very next part of the very next verse. "But we see Jesus..." (Hebrews 2:9). The key to faith walking is knowing what your faith is in. And I can't say it any more plain than Jesus Himself did. "And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God" (Mark 11:22). Which, of course, means have faith in LOVE. That's the difference, in a word, betwee "sinner" and "saint." A sinner--unbeliever--doesn't know and believe the love of God. A saint--believer--does. That's the difference. And, by the way, the only way to "make converts" or anything like that, is by loving the hell out of people. By SHOWING them who God is by loving them. By letting the Word become flesh. Charity. Love in action. That's what walking in faith is all about. We don't always see everything under His (again, OUR) feet. But we see Jesus. How's that old saying go? We don't always know what tomorrow holds, but we know the One who holds tomorrow. We don't put our faith, our trust, in what we see externally. We put our faith in what's inside us. The love that's inside us. And if we face whatever situation we happen to come up against by drawing with joy from the well that's within us... if we use love as first choice and not last chance... then we WILL be able to get through whatever it is. We'll be able to learn and grow. We'll be able to dig a well and help whoever it is that's coming next. Because we all go through the same stuff. This human condition is very individual, but at the same time we're all people going through the same stuff. And if I've already been through it, then I can help YOU through it. If I can see it under His (my) feet, then I don't have to struggle with it. AND I can reach down and pull you up to where I'm at. I don't know why we say things like, "Bad company corrupts good people." Sometimes it does, sure. But guess what--a bad influence isn't automatically stronger than a good influence. If you know what you know and you're living by believing then it doesn't matter what else is going around. If Jesus is holding you up (and He is!) then nothing can drag you down. Just because it's under your feet doesn't mean it's going to trip you up or drag you down. It means you're over it. It can't touch you. When Jesus walked on water I don't even think He cared that it was water. He was going where He was going no matter WHAT was under His feet. He was faith walking. And then He spoke and Peter walked on the Word of God. That's where WE are. Right now! That's what WE can do. When we know and believe the truth of God's love for us!

Faith Walking part 1

12/07/2016 15:35

If before the cross we were sleepwalking--dead in our trespasses and sins, and trying to be someone we're not because we didn't know who we were, because we didn't know who God was--then on THIS side of the cross we are faith walking. Which is exactly what 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, "For we walk by faith, not by sight." And notice, Paul isn't saying, "You NEED to walk by faith." He is saying, "We walk by faith." When you're talking about the finished work of the cross you have to stop waiting for something to happen and you have to start understanding what already happened. I feel like this is going to be controversial so I'm just going to bury it right here and then maybe expand on it later on: I don't believe we are "born into sin" anymore. Not since the cross. Not since Jesus was lifted up from the earth and drew us all into Himself. I think when He died we died. First we were dead BECAUSE of sin, and then we died TO sin. And then born again. Romans 6:4 says it like this, "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Did you catch that at the end there? Walk in newness of life. Faith walking. And look at how the NLT puts 2 Corinthians 5:7, "For we live by believing and not by seeing." Walking by faith is LIVING BY BELIEVING. To live is to love and to love is to live, right? Well, the idea of "love" is one thing, but when you put love in action--when the Word is made flesh--that's charity. And that's truly living. That's living by believing. Because if sin is unbelief--or wrong belief, or believing that God doesn't love us unless--then faith is knowing and believing the love of Christ. Knowing who we are in Him because we know who He is in us. Not trying to follow in His foot steps, or keep an external law, or be someone we're not through behavior modification... but letting Him be Himself in us, and through us, and as us. Not accepting what the world has to show us, or offer us. Not judging by appearance, but judging righteous judgment. Knowing the judgment that was passed down from Father to Son on the cross--not a death sentence, but an eternal, everlasting, abundant, Resurrection Life sentence--and walking in newness of life. Leaving the old behind. You've seen that picture right? A hand is holding a rope. Holding on as tightly as it can. And then it finally lets go and you see the rope burn on the hand. And it says, "Sometimes holding on does more damage than letting go." And don't get me wrong, there are some things we SHOULD hold on to. Fighting the good fight of faith is laying hold of eternal life. Receiving (and releasing) the gift we've been given. But there are some things (like the old man and the beast, or sin, nature) that we really ought to let go of. It's hard to walk when you're carrying a heavy load. And given half a chance the world will try to load you down and crush you. But no matter what it looks like... no matter how hot the fire you're in... the fire in you is hotter! You don't have to let what things look like dictate to you. Because all those things are under your feet. (That's my verse for tomorrow.) What we need to do is walk by faith. Live by believing. Live a life of being loved and loving each other with that same love!
