The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

The Divine part 5

03/26/2017 12:13
I want to end this Rant series by taking a look at what makes the divine so... well... divine. And the best way to say it is: "Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the...

The Divine part 4

03/25/2017 17:15
We are partakers of the divine nature through the knowledge of Christ. To me that means Jesus has prepared a table for us in the presence of our enemies, and He stands at the door and knocks... just waiting for us to let Him in so that we can sup with Him. To me that means the Spirit and the bride...

The Divine part 3

03/24/2017 20:31
We are divine creatures. Godlike. Because we were made in God's image, and then--on the cross--confomed to the image of His Son. The fulness of the Godhead dwelt in A body when Jesus walked the earth. Now it dwells in OUR bodies. His corporate body. Because He dwells in us. And, I think, the key to...

The Divine part 2

03/23/2017 17:14
My mom has a poster in her house that says something along the lines of, "If we did everything we were capable of, we would literally astonish ourselves." And while I absolutely agree with that, MY poster would say, "If we really knew who we were we literally astonish each other." Because if we...

The Divine part 1

03/22/2017 17:17
Have you ever eaten something and it was so good--so heavenly--that you said, "This is divine?" That feeling (and for me it's chocolate) is what I always think of when I see that word. But according to 2 Peter 1:4, "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye...

New Birth part 5

03/21/2017 18:16
I honestly don't think I'm doing this subject justice. Which is why I started this Rant series with a disclaimer. I truly don't believe we've even really started to understand what 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) is all about: "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old...

New Birth part 4

03/20/2017 16:57
First there was a death, when Adam ate from the tree of death (the tree of knowledge of good and evil). Then, there was another, second death, when Jesus was lifted up from the earth on the cross and gave His life both for us and as us. And then there was a new birth. See, in the eyes of God there...

New Birth part 3

03/19/2017 16:51
This is where it gets exciting. We're past the second death. And we weren't harmed by it because we know that Jesus died both for us and AS us. We know that HIS death WAS our (second) death. And now, because of that finished work of the cross, we have been born again. We received a new birth. Born...

New Birth part 2

03/18/2017 19:18
Today I want to focus on the second death. Because you can't get to the new birth without it. When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus about being born from above, Nicodemus asked about returning to his mother's womb (John 3:4). But with all due respect to mothers--and I really do mean that. Because...

New Birth part 1

03/17/2017 18:04
I want to put this out there as a disclaimer: I don't understand everything. I agree with 1 John 2:20, "But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things." I think we know, on a deep level, what's what and what's real. The NLT puts it like this, "But you are not like that, for the...
