The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

Perfect Timing part 5

01/25/2017 18:17
I don't necessarily like to start a Rant by quoting a Bible verse, or passage. So I usually ramble a little bit and then quote it. Like so. "...we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom...

Perfect Timing part 4

01/24/2017 17:47
Our own expectations set us up for disappointment more than anything else. We want what we want and we want it when we want it. Then, when it doesn't come, we tear our clothes and blame God. When, in truth, many times when we DON'T get what we want, that is God's hand protecting us. Keeping us from...

Perfect Timing part 3

01/23/2017 17:26
One of my friends pointed out to me that God's timing is NOW. He's a NOW God. NOW faith is the substance of things hoped for. And I believe that. Absolutely. Everything we need has already been provided for us and it's available to us right now. All of the promises of God are yes and amen. But at...

Perfect Timing part 2

01/22/2017 12:45
God's timing is absolutely perfect. It just doesn't always SEEM that way. Especially when we're banging our heads against the wall trying to MAKE something happen. Jesus said it like this, "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent...

Perfect Timing part 1

01/21/2017 17:31
Do you ever wonder why nothing ever works out... until it does? Has anything ever happened and it seemed like it was the worst thing that could possibly happen? Only to find out later on that it was the start of something amazing? What I'm trying to say is... sometimes you have to fall before you...

The Power of Love part 5

01/20/2017 15:12
The power of love is that it is not over powering. Look at what 1 Corinthians 13:5 in the NLT says about love, "...It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged." Love gives everything it has and everything it is with NO EXPECTATION of getting...

The Power of Love part 4

01/19/2017 17:17
The power of love is giving everything you have and everything you are and expecting nothing in return. That's the nature of love. Because love is not about getting anything. Love IS giving. Sharing what you've got. Esteeming others higher than yourself and taking care of THEM instead of worrying...

The Power of Love part 3

01/18/2017 14:43
I want to revisit the key verse for this Rant series: 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." Now, just the same as Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye...

The Power of Love part 2

01/17/2017 14:32
It's almost unfathomable how powerful love is. But I'll try to say it as simply as I can: "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). When we had nothing to offer... God gave us His only beloved Son. He gave us His very life....

The Power of Love part 1

01/16/2017 16:55
There are some things that we seem to take for granted in the "church world." One of them is that God is all-powerful. But it doesn't seem like we make the connection that if God is all-powerful, and God is love... that means LOVE is all-powerful. It doesn't seem like we turly understand the power...
