The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

Comprehension part 5

09/17/2016 12:54
If someone tells you something and your response is, "I don't understand!" then what they just told you--true though it may be--doesn't do you any good. That's why its so important to let God reveal His immutable truth to you. He gives us an understanding. He doesn't expect us to "figure it out."...

Comprehension part 4

09/16/2016 12:50
Here's where I think comprehension comes in the most handy--unfortunately, it's also where comprehension is the hardest: When we don't understand... that's when we need to understand the most. When things look "bad." When we don't know what's happening, or why. When things look dark. But don't they...

Comprehension part 3

09/15/2016 12:14
Sometimes it takes that "Aha!" moment before you can truly comprehend (or understand) what you know. When the truth becomes true to you. When it becomes real. Not just an idea, or something you've read, or something someone has told you, but something you've experienced. This happened to Saul of...

Comprehension part 2

09/14/2016 11:52
The other day I was talking to my five year old son, Logan. And I was giving him this whole big speech, and he was nodding along. So when I finished I said, "Got it, bub?" And he said, "Yep!" But then he turned his head and looked me dead in the eye and said, "Wait. What did I just agree to?"...

Comprehension part 1

09/13/2016 11:31
I believe in repetition as a very effective way to learn something. That's one of the reasons I read the Bible from cover to cover once a year. I'm building that foundation. So that when someone brings new light--new revelation--to a verse, or passage, I have a general knowledge of what they're...

Immutable part 5

09/12/2016 12:33
Jesus is the truth. The truth about God and the truth about you. Who God is--your loving heavenly Father--and who you are--His beloved Son in whom He is wel pleased. And since we're talking about identity, Jesus is the immutable truth. The unchanging truth. His being pleased with you isn't about...

Immutable part 4

09/11/2016 12:26
Nothing can change about God's love for us. God IS love. In order for Him to stop loving us, He'd have to stop being God. And even if that was possible, it would never happen. I always say it like this, "God is not mad AT you, He's mad ABOUT you." God is head over heels in love with you. He loves...

Immutable part 3

09/10/2016 10:12
The immutable truth of God's love for us is unchanging. It's true no matter what. But the key to the truth is KNOWING and BELIEVING it. Because even though God loves you no matter what... even though He always has and always will love you... if you don't know it, it doesn't really do much for you....

Immutable part 2

09/09/2016 15:00
When something is immutable, that means it is unchangable. I was going to put "written in stone" but really it's even more than that. It's written in the heart. It's absolute truth. True yesterday, today, and forever. That's a foundation you can build on. Because no matter what happens, that...

Immutable part 1

09/08/2016 11:05
There are things you "know" and there are things you KNOW. It's the difference between head knowledge and heart knowledge, right? But I've always thought if you're going to base your life on something it should be something true. A truth. And not only "A" truth, but THE truth. We know Jesus is THE...
