The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

Stand Fast part 4

01/24/2021 19:52
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is just stand. To be still and know that HE is God. To understand that you don't have to fight every battle and right every wrong. In fact, understanding that Jesus has won the war to end all wars means we don't have to fight at all. We can let people be who they...

Stand Fast part 3

01/23/2021 19:14
The best, and really the only, way to stand fast... is to make sure you're standing in, and on, the right thing. Look at Psalm 62:2 in the New Living Translation, "Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken." That's pretty important. If you stand on the Rock...

Stand Fast part 2

01/22/2021 19:42
What does it mean to stand FAST? It means stand no matter what, right? Stand in the midst of whatever is going on. Stand strong. Look at Ephesians 6:10-11--and a little bit of context here, if you read the whole passage it's about putting on the whole armor of God. It's about clothing ourselves...

Stand Fast part 1

Not too long ago I did a Rant series about standing. Standing on the Rock that is Jesus. Standing on (and in) love, so that we might not be shaken. For the next few days I want to focus on a different aspect of standing. It comes from Galatians 5:1, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which...

Carefree part 5

01/20/2021 17:40
Being careful for nothing, but with everything giving thanks... is a more excellent way to live. It really is. Instead of running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, looking for love in all the wrong places, trying to be someone you're not in order to get something you think you haven't...

Carefree part 4

01/19/2021 17:28
If we cast our cares on the Lord (knowing and believing and trusting that He cares for us) we can be careful for nothing (1 Peter 5:7 and Philippians 4:6). If we leave our worries and anxieties in God's capable hands we can focus on other things. Like... love. And when you're focused on love......

Carefree part 3

01/18/2021 17:14
Yesterday we talked about being "careful" or full of care. Too much anxiety or worry keeping you from doing anything. Today I want to talk about being careless. Or reckless. Because unless you're being carefree, no matter what end of the spectrum you're on, you're missing out on that Holy Spirit...

Carefree part 2

01/17/2021 20:43
There's such a big difference between being carefree and being careless. It is literally the difference between life and death. You can't live--you can't truly and fully experience the abundant, everlasting, eternal, Resurrection Life of love that is the gift of God--if you're being too careful OR...

Carefree part 1

01/16/2021 20:53
I think sometimes I'll kind of use an idea on the periphery. Kind of mention it once and a while. Let it sit in my Spirit. But then I like to really dig in on it. That's what I want to do in this Rant series. The idea of living carefree. And my key verse is 1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your care upon...

Conversion part 5

01/15/2021 17:13
If you think it's your job to change people--to make sure they think and believe and act the same way that you do--you need to think again. That's a simply as I can put it. It's not you job to make clones of yourself. Especially when you consider the fact that you yourself are changing and growing...
