The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

New and Improved part 1

I think we underestimate the cross sometimes. Most of the time. It was literally the biggest event in the history of history. And it changed EVERYTHING. Look at Revelation 21:5, "And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are...

The Risen Lord part 5

03/30/2016 10:05
Jesus is risen from the dead. He is the risen Lord. And since His death was our death, His Resurrection Life is OUR life! We don't try to live Jesus' life--nobody can live His life except Him--but we EXPERIENCE His life as He live it in us, and through us, and as us. And I think that's the key to...

The Risen Lord part 4

03/29/2016 12:02
If we died with Jesus--if His death was our death--then we also rose with Jesus. His life is now our life. It's not something we try to do. I think that's where we get lost so easily. Life isn't about trying to change, or trying to be someone you're not. Life is about living. And we know that to...

The Risen Lord part 3

Jesus. He died, we died. And as amazing as that is... that He would draw us into Himself and lay down His life both for us and as us to free us from the bondage of sin and death... thank God that's not the whole story. Because He didn't just die. He rose again. He laid His life down so He could...

The Risen Lord part 2

Jesus died... and then three days later He rose again. Both of those truths are ultimately important. And I'm not going to sit here and say I completely understand every bit of it. But I do understand this: When He died, I died. And when He rose again, I rose again. The old passed away. The new...

The Risen Lord part 1

It's hard to understand (much less explain) how important the cross was. The unimaginable gift of God--life Himself--dying for us... laying His life down FOR US. That, in and of itself, is a greater gift than we could ever, or had ever, expected. And that was only the first part of the plan. Jesus...

The Living God part 5

03/25/2016 10:55
The living God is the loving God. Because to live is to love and to love is to live. So when we say God is not concerned with the tree of knowledge of good and evil (the tree of death) but is concerned with the Tree of Life... what we mean is that God (who IS love) is concerned only WITH love! The...

The Living God part 4

I know I've been stuck on this idea for a while now, but I can't understand our fixation with the "afterlife." It's like we waste the time we've got in order to hopefully assure our place in heaven someday when we die. Guys: Heaven isn't just a place you to to when you die. Heaven is where you went...

The Living God part 3

03/23/2016 11:02
God is a living God... because He lives in us! He is a loving God... because He loves through us! In Him we live, and move, and have our being. In us He lives, and moves, and has His being! I always find it funny when people say, "God works in mysterious ways." Because I believe God works through...

The Living God part 2

03/22/2016 10:45
A living God is a loving God. Because to live is to love and to love is to live. You can't have one without the other. They are the same thing. And God is not the God of the dead. But He IS the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Which means even though those great men of God physically died... they...
