The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

Conversion part 4

01/14/2021 17:40
If you're not picking up what I'm laying down... I can just shrug my shoulders and move on. I don't feel compelled, at all, to convince you that I'm right and you're wrong. Especially when you consider that I'm trying to learn and grow myself. I don't think I know everything. Well, actually, 1 John...

Conversion part 3

01/13/2021 17:43
We hear a lot about "winning souls" in the religious world. About making sure we save people. And it's usually in regards to saving people from an eternal, fiery afterlife, right? Saving peoples' souls from going to hell when they die. Well, in my theology none of that is anything. In my theology...

Conversion part 2

01/12/2021 17:32
The title of this Rant series refers to the fact that I don't have any interest in converting people to my way of believing. That's not my job. That's not my calling. That's not something I have any interest in. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, these things are so important. Especially in...

Conversion part 1

01/11/2021 17:49
This one might seem a little weird coming from a pastor. A preacher. A blogger. A podcaster. But I'm not trying to convince anybody of anything. I'm not trying to push my beliefs on anybody. I know there is a theology out there that says "If you don't believe the right thing in the right way--say...

Follow part 5

01/10/2021 20:35
Being a follower of God, or a disciple of Christ, means being a student of love. To me, it's that simple. Learning how to love by learning how we are loved. Letting God love us and loving Him back by loving the people we come into contact with. That, to me, more than anything else, is our EPIC...

Follow part 4

01/09/2021 20:37
I've long said God is too much of a gentleman to force His will on us. He has given us a measure of free will. And I say "a measure" because when Jesus was lifted up from the earth on the cross and He drew all men into Himself... we didn't have a say in that. We didn't have anything to do with...

Follow part 3

01/08/2021 19:50
If you're going to follow somebody, you have to have faith that they know where they're going. Obedience is a trust issue. That's why verses like Isaiah 46:10, "Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will...

Follow part 2

01/07/2021 17:37
"Where you lead, I will follow." To me, that's a pretty good prayer. Especially because it puts the emphasis where it belongs--on Jesus. It's on HIM to lead us where HE wants us to go. And, by the way, He's more than happy, willing, capable, and able to do so. He knows where we should go. He'll get...

Follow part 1

01/06/2021 17:29
There are a lot of religious folk out there who claim to be "following Jesus." Or who, more often, tell others to "follow Jesus." And while I think that's great advice, I want to spend a few days kind of diving in to it and looking at what it really means to be a follower, or a disciple, of Christ....

New Things part 5

01/05/2021 18:00
The key to experiencing the new things that are available to us--a new life, a new name, a new nature, a new commandment for a new man--is letting go of the old. Just walking away from the things that used to hold you down. Not fighting with them. The only fight left after Jesus won the war to end...
