The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

Prisoner part 4

09/06/2020 19:19
When you're a prisoner, you don't have a choice. You have to do what you're told to do. Or else. And by this definition it gets a little tricky. Because being a prisoner of Christ means we are ruled by love. That's who Christ is. God is love. But at the same time, I don't believe God very often...

Prisoner part 3

09/05/2020 20:25
Life is all about the choices you make. God put life and death, blessings and cursings before us. And let us choose. But first He told us WHAT to choose. He said, "Choose life." Which seems like a no-brainer to me. But if you don't understand what life IS--to live is to love and to love is to...

Prisoner part 2

09/04/2020 19:57
Let's talk about the love slave. I love (see what I did there?) to bring this up every now and then, because it's so powerful. It's in the book of Exodus, chapter 21. I'm going to cherry pick a verse here and there to cut down on it a little bit. Verse 2, "If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years...

Prisoner part 1

09/03/2020 19:44
I've been Ranting a lot about freedom lately. How it is not freedom TO sin, but freedom FROM sin. About how it is freedom TO love. To live! Well, for the next few days I want to talk about what Paul referred to himself as. A lot. One example of it is Philemon 1:1, "Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ,...

Live to Love part 5

09/02/2020 19:50
Fighting an uphill battle all the time is exhausting. And, while good things in life DO take time and effort... no father wants his son to struggle through life. Especially not our heavenly Father who so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son so that we might not perish, but instead experience...

Live to Love part 4

09/01/2020 19:45
To live is to love. To love is to live. So living to love... is loving to live. I think we lose sight of that a lot of the time. We lose sight of the fact--the glorious truth--that life is supposed to be enjoyed. And, listen, that doesn't mean you should give in to every whim and impulse....

Live to Love part 3

08/31/2020 19:44
Everybody wants to live life to the fullest, right? Well... except for those time when all you're trying to do is get from the start of the day to the end of the day. Like at work sometimes I'll ask somebody, "How are you doing?" And they'll say, "I'm here." Sometimes that's the most you can do....

Live to Love part 2

08/30/2020 19:36
Jesus said a lot of things that were misunderstood by a lot of people, including His own disciples. But every one in a while He'd make things pretty clear. For example: "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might...

Live to Love part 1

08/29/2020 19:50
I think, if anything, this is the main thrust of my ministry. The connection between living and loving. And how you can't do one without the other because they are not just connected... they are, in fact, the same thing. It's kind of like how love is giving, right? You can give without loving, but...

Heaven part 5

08/28/2020 20:20
I've preached and Ranted about the idea of binding and loosing before. And, let's be real, I probably will again. So I don't want to get into that too far today, to end this Rant series, but I want to use Matthew 18:18 as my memory verse for today. "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind...
