The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

Communication part 4

06/08/2020 19:53
This was one of the verses that I had in mind when I started this Rant series: Ephesians 4:29, "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers." Our words can heal... but, unfortunately, they can...

Communication part 3

06/07/2020 20:25
I want to drop a memory verse here that I think has been kind of misunderstood and misused over the years. And maybe I'm going to misunderstand and misuse it right here, but I'm going to tell you what I think about it. And if I'm wrong... at least I'm erring on the side of love. "Be ye not...

Communication part 2

06/06/2020 20:48
Talking is a part of communication. But it isn't all there is. There is also listening. And there is also behavior. Sometimes the only way people can express themselves--especially when it comes to frustration, or sadness... big emotions--is to lash out. To explode, in a sense. And instead of...

Communication part 1

06/05/2020 19:49
They say communication is the key to any relationship, right? Well, let's spend some time talking about that. Communicating about that. And before we even get into any memory verses I want to throw this out there: Communication isn't just talking. It's always listening. A lot of the time, listening...

Stand part 5

06/04/2020 19:55
I think I have a very simple message to end this Rant series about standing. 1 Thessalonians 3:7-8, "Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord." There's distress in this life. Affliction. Trials....

Stand part 4

06/03/2020 19:38
This is one of my favorite Bible verses, which I never hear preached ever. "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy" (Jude 1:24). It seems like all we ever hear about in religious circles is what to do...

Stand part 3

06/02/2020 20:00
There's a story in Exodus chapter 14 where Moses is leading the people out of bondage. And the people--who have been slaves for, like, hundreds of years--start grumbling and complaining. Exodus 14:12, "Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, let us alone, that we may serve the...

Stand part 2

06/01/2020 20:09
The important part, to me, is what you stand FOR. Like in the verse Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it." Train up a child in the way he SHOULD go. We seem like we end up focusing too much and too often on the negatives. Like we...

Stand part 1

05/31/2020 19:42
A long long time ago I heard a line in a song that said, "You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything." And that stuck with me. Because I don't care about much. I'm really hard to bother. I don't sweat the small stuff... or the big stuff. I once had someone tell me, "The only...

The Measure of the Stature part 5

05/30/2020 20:12
The measure of the man is the size of him. What he's all about. Who he is. And that's why it's so important to know the measure of the stature of Jesus. Because in knowing who HE is, we know who WE are. Because as He is, so are we in this world. His measure is our measure. When we measure ourselves...
