The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

The Mystery part 4

01/30/2020 19:37
The mystery is God's love for us. Because a lot of the time it doesn't seem to make any sense. We are our own worst enemies a lot of the time. Because we are with ourselves ALL of the time. We know the worst things we've done. We know what we're capable of on our worst days. And those bad things...

The Mystery part 3

01/29/2020 20:02
The thing that I want to make as clear as possible... is that the mystery has been revealed. It's not a mystery anymore. Look at Ephesians 1:7-9, "In whom we haev redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all...

The Mystery part 2

01/28/2020 20:40
The coolest thing about the mystery of God... is that it has been revealed in the person of Jesus. Man got into a lot of trouble because of what he didn't know. He swallowed the lie that said, "You have to do in order to be." The lie that said, "If you eat from this tree, you will be like God." And...

The Mystery part 1

01/27/2020 20:27
I like to be right about things. Not a state secret, eh? It's surely better than the alternative. But the thing about God is that He doesn't want us to lean on our own understanding. He wants us to trust HIM. He wants us to know that He's in control. Be still and know that HE is God, right? Every...

Steadfast part 5

01/26/2020 19:55
Stick with me as we end this Rant series tonight. Because I want to drop my memory verse first and then build off of it. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, "And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not...

Steadfast part 4

01/25/2020 20:05
"And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock" (Matthew 7:25). I try not to start these Rants with a Bible verse, but I like this one. It's kind of dramatic. The storm came! But don't worry, because...

Steadfast part 3

01/24/2020 17:59
If you want something different, do something different. Unless you're building something. In which case, stay the course. Because Rome wasn't built in a day. Sometimes you have to be steadfast in doing what you know to do, even when it's hard. Even when it seems like what you're doing isn't making...

Steadfast part 2

01/23/2020 20:00
I know the word "steadfast" has the word "fast" in it. But I think that might be one of those ironic things. Because, really, it's more of a "slow and steady wins the race" kind of deal. A "Rome wasn't built in a day" kind of thing. Love never fails, because love endures. Is what I'm trying to...

Steadfast part 1

01/22/2020 20:05
We have faith in God (in love) because He proves Himself faithful. We trust in Him because He proves Himself trustworthy. Do you see a theme developing? We can be steadfast in His love, because His love is steadfast in us. Now, according to dictionary.com "steadfast" means, "Fixed in direction;...

Blind Faith part 5

01/21/2020 20:04
When Jesus appears we will see Him as He is, and be Him as He is. Which you could, I guess, make it sound like something to wait for. But add this to that: "Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world" (1 John 4:17)....
