The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

Now What? part 4

12/11/2019 20:08
Another one of my favorite Bible verses, one that I call the OTHER 3:16 (because John 3:16 is so popular, but this is the other one), "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren" (1 John 3:16). Receiving and...

Now What? part 3

Let's try to look at this in a different way. We're talking about what to do with our lives, kind of, right? Talking about what has happened and what CAN happen because of what has happened. And, really, that's the cross. The cross is the biggest thing that has ever happened. The God who is love...

Now What? part 2

12/09/2019 20:13
It's a question that I used to ask myself a lot. Because I've never been afraid to try to do things. A lot of the time it doesn't work out the way I think it will (or the way I think it should), but I comfort myself by being able to say, "At least I tried." And then I usually say, "Ok... now what?"...

Now What? part 1

We just finished a Rant series about how it is finished. And we ended it with the revelation that BECAUSE it is finished we are equipped and empowered to run the race that is set before us. We have been filled with the love of God. That's a done deal. And now we can fill ourselves to overflowing...

Finished part 5

12/07/2019 20:27
This might seem like a little bit of a strange way to end this Rant series, but I want to talk about the last part of Hebrews 12:1, "Where seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin with doth so easily beset us, and let us run...

Finished part 4

12/06/2019 20:02
On the cross Jesus cried out, "It is finished," right before giving up the ghost. Right before making the greatest sacrifice He could make. Right before giving the greatest expression of love that a man can give. But even though it's only three words... it's so big. We've already looked at a couple...

Finished part 3

12/05/2019 20:03
I can't stress how important it is that we understand possibly the three most important words Jesus ever spoke: It is finished. Because, well, let me quote my Scripture for today. "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of...

Finished part 2

It is finished. Perhaps the most powerful phrase ever uttered. The last words spoken before Jesus gave up the ghost. His dying declaration, if I can say it that way. And to me it goes right along with--hand in hand with--the other incredibly powerful thing He said on the cross. "Then said Jesus,...

Finished part 1

12/03/2019 20:10
My all-time favorite verse in the Bible is 1 Thessalonians 5:17, "Pray without ceasing." And I chose that verse, in part, because my dad's favorite verse is John 11:25, "Jesus wept." He picked the shortest verse. I picked the next shortest. But, in reality, I think the most powerful three word...

Attitude part 5

12/02/2019 19:50
Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you deal with it. Because you can't control anything but yourself. Jesus said in this world you WILL have tribulation, right? Like... life happens. Every day. The trick is making sure that instead of letting things get into you, you let...
