The Rant

A former co-worker coined the phrase when I offered to let her listen to one of my sermons on CD. She said, "Sure, I'll listen to Tom rant about Jesus." At first it sounded funny, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed to fit. That's what we, as preachers, pretty much do. We rant about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." That's it. Jesus. Who He is, and what He did, and what it means for us. That's my job, or calling, or anointing. To preach Christ. Jesus is in every book of the Bible. The entire volume speaks of Him. If you don't see Jesus, you're looking at it wrong.

So that's what I'm going to continue to do in this forum: Rant about Jesus.

My hope is to Rant every night by 9:00 pm, so check daily for new blogs.

Boundaries part 4

08/13/2019 20:18
Boundaries are healthy. And that's important, because your health is important. Which means boundaries are important. Listen. I'm going to say this as clearly as I can: You can't do everything. And that's ok. Because you're not supposed to do everything. Look at 1 Corinthians 3:6-7, "I have...

Boundaries part 3

08/12/2019 16:56
You can't do everything. And that's ok. You're not supposed to do everything. You can't reach everyone. And that's ok. You're not supposed to reach everyone. The secret of life is staying in your lane. Being who you are and doing what you can do. Now let me say this and then I'll qualify it, try to...

Boundaries part 2

08/11/2019 20:14
Boundaries are ok. More than ok. They are necessary. Healthy. Because people WILL take advantage of you, if you let them. One of the truest things I've ever found in this life is that what you allow is what will continue. People are selfish. They will try to get whatever they can for themselves....

Boundaries part 1

08/10/2019 16:44
It's ok to have boundaries. In fact, it is necessary to have boundaries. Look at Matthew 5:38-39, "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other...

Perception part 5

08/09/2019 17:26
I know I say this a lot, "Seeing is believing." But today I want to end this Rant series with another idea, "Their eyes were blinded, their hearts were hardened, So that they wouldn't see with their eyes and perceive with their hearts, And turn to me, God, so I could heal them" (John 14:20 MSG)....

Perception part 4

08/08/2019 19:50
I looked up the word "perceived" in the King James version of the Bible, and almost every time it occurred it was about someone perceiving something... let's say... bad. A lot of times it was Jesus perceiving people's selfish thoughts. But then there's this one: "And when James, Cephas, and John,...

Perception part 3

08/07/2019 19:52
I think, to some degree, all of us have a perception problem. Not too long ago I Ranted about the blind spot. About how we all have things in our lives--be it people, or behavior, what have you--that we don't see correctly, or judge correctly. And don't get me started about how we're not "supposed"...

Perception part 2

08/06/2019 19:58
How you perceive things is vitally important. Because even if something is true, if you don't see it, or know it, or believe it to be true... then it's not true FOR YOU. Now don't get me wrong--the truth is the truth. Whether you know it or not. Whether you believe it or not. But I think the best...

Perception part 1

08/05/2019 19:52
I used this memory verse in the last Rant series, but I want to spend a few days to dig into it. 1 John 3:16, "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." "Perceive" being number 1097 in Strong's Greek Concordance...

Love Is part 5

08/04/2019 19:49
It's not about you. I mean, listen, I know that we are each the main character in our own story. I get that. But even though I always say, facetiously, "It's your world and we're just living in it," your story is about more than just you. Think about it. If love is giving, and you can't give...
