Delight and Desire part 4
What we desire is what we delight in. And I'm not talking about "stuff." Stuff is the substitute we use in order to try to fill the God-shaped, love-shaped void inside of us. The truth of the matter is, though, that there is NO void inside us. Look at Genesis 1:1-3, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light and there was light." This is the story of creation, but it is also the story of us. Heaven is our mind and earth is our body. And before the cross we FELT void because it was dark. We couldn't see the truth. And since seeing is believing we couldn't believe that God loved us. Because without the Holy Spirit (our love receptor) leading and guiding us into the truth that Daddy loves us... it seems too good to be true. We desired God's love without ever really believing we could get it. So. On the cross God let His light shine. The light of the world laid down His life for His friends and showed us the greatest expression of love. He gave us something to believe in. He gave us His heart, and His mind, and His Spirit. Why? So we could delight in Him. He showed us how good He is. And look at the end of Romans 2:3, "...the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance." Repentance, of course, meaning to change your mindset, or change your way of thinking. God brought us out of darkness and into the light of His Kingdom by giving us something new to think about. Something new to believe in. He showed us a more excellent way. And that more excellent way... is love. Jesus IS the Way! And the Truth! And the Life! LOVE is the way, the truth, and the life! This is why I always say, "It's all about Jesus." Because it's all about love. And that's who Jesus is: God in the flesh. Love in a body. Love in YOUR body. And when we understand (throught the Spirit) that He has already given us the desire of our heart--that we are already loved and accepted (and always have been)--then we can begin to delight in Him. Guys... when somebody loves you it's REALLY hard not to like them. Because, as one of Logan's favorite movies says, "an act of true love can thaw a frozen heart." That's was man's problem before the cross; he had a hard heart. He couldn't receive the love of the Father because he didn't see God AS a Father. He saw God as an angry taskmaster, so he tried to earn the gift of eternal life--and Jesus said eternal life is knowing the Father and the One whom the Father sent. Eternal life is the RELATIONSHIP between the heavenly Father and His beloved Son in whom He is well pleased--but you can't earn a gift. A gift is freely given, but must be received. That's where the Holy Spirit comes in. And once we receive the desire of our heart... that's when we can delight in the One who IS the desire of our heart! If we're trying to get something, that's no fun. But when we understand that we already have it... then we can enjoy it and share it. Then we can receive and release it. Then we can delight in the desire of our heart... because our heart is fully satified by the love of the Father!
