Immutable part 2
When something is immutable, that means it is unchangable. I was going to put "written in stone" but really it's even more than that. It's written in the heart. It's absolute truth. True yesterday, today, and forever. That's a foundation you can build on. Because no matter what happens, that foundation will stand strong. And here's the immutable truth that is written in our hearts: God loves us. If you read Romans 8:35-39 you come to the conclusion--the immutable truth--that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. Which means nothing can separate us from God. Because A. He lives inside us. He moved in and He's never moving out. And B. He IS love. To separate us from God's love would be to separate us from God. Guys, it ain't happening. Won't happen. CAN'T happen. So we don't need to go around picking flower petals singing, "He loves me, He loves me not." We don't have to base our relationship with God on our behavior. We can have a bad day and still KNOW--with a knowledge that passes knowledge... a heart knowledge--that God loves us. We can make a mistake and still KNOW that we are the righteousness of God in Christ. Our key passage of Scripture for this Rant series is Hebrews 6:18-19. Hebrews 6:19 reads like this, "Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil." The immutable truth of God's love for us is our anchor. It keeps our boat from drifting away. Or, to continue the boat metaphor, it is our lighthouse to keep us from crashing into the rocks. Ephesians 4:14 says it like this, "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive." When you know the truth, you don't even have to listen to the lie. You can lay aside the sin (unbelief) that so easily besets you. You can literally stick your fingers in your ears and go, "Lalalalalala. I'm not listening" when the world tries to tell you who you are. You can ignore the shouting and instead listen to the still, small voice inside you that is saying, over and over, with every beat of God's heart in your chest, "I love you. I love you. I love you. You are my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." Because Jesus is the truth, right? The truth about God, and the truth about us. Who we really are. Right now. Because of the work He finished on the cross. He was lifted up from the earth and He drew all men into Himself. Then He planted Himself into all men. He died so we could die and then He rose again so we could rise again. So that we could experience His abundant, everlasting, eternal, Resurrection Life as He lives it in us, and through us, and as us. So that we might KNOW the immutable truth, and that truth might set us free. Set us free, and make us free. Free FROM the bondage of sin and death. Free TO walk in newness of life. To be who we are instead of trying to be someone we're not. To rest. To flow. To receive and release the love of the Father AS His beloved Son in whom He is well pleased. To love and to love. Because to live IS to love, and to love is to live. That's the secret TO life, and the truth ABOUT life!
