The Guide part 3

How do we let the Holy Spirit guide us? Romans 8:14 tells us that, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." But how exactly do we let the Holy Spirit lead us? I really don't think the Holy Spirit tells us to, "Do this or else." I think there are times when we have a very strong feeling that we should or shouldn't do something. I remember once I was in the parking lot at work, and I was early (of course). So I spent some time in prayer. And more clearly than anything I KNEW I needed to leave work, call in, and go see somebody. It was a feeling coming from deep within. It was me following my heart. Because that's what the Holy Spirit is. It's your heart. It's God's heart beating with love in your chest. That's WHO the Holy Spirit is. Jesus. God in the flesh. Love in a body. And that's why I had to leave work, because I needed to go love somebody. The Holy Spirit leads and guides us into all truth--the truth that we KNOW, but need help UNDERSTANDING. The truth that Daddy loves us unconditionally. So we are led by the Spirit when we let God love us. When we stop disqualifying ourselves--I'm just a sinner in need a saviour, and God could never love me. WRONG! Before the cross you were a sinner. Then you got saved by grace. Now you're something different. Jesus presented you to Himself as a bride without spot, wrinkle, or any such thing. You're not a sinner, you're a saint. You're not a servant, trying to earn something from his master. You're a Son, who knows that everything Daddy has is yours! Which is exactly what Romans 8:14 says: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. The Spirit leads us by telling us who we really are. By telling us who Jesus really is in us! Jesus said it like this, "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me" (John 15:26). The Holy Spirit doesn't tell us what to do, the Holy Spirit tells us who we are! Because what we do flows from who we are. It's all about identity, because it's all about love. God is love. That's not just what He does, that's who He is. And since we are as He is in this world... that's who WE are. Since He doesn't just live IN us, but lives THROUGH us and AS us... the only thing we need to know is that Daddy loves us. That we are His beloved Son in whom He is well pleased. That we have been with Him always and all He has is ours! That the love He fills us to overflowing with is the same love that we share with one another. When the Holy Spirit "told" me to leave work... it was with the express purpose of loving someone. That's all God wants to do. That's all God wants US to do. When He leads us, He leads us into love. When He guides us, He guides us into love. And when we're IN love--when we know and believe that love is in us--that's when it flows freely out of us like a river of living water!
